And we finally get the reveal for the grand enigma of what is going on with Hagrid. It was never one that excited me terribly, and I cannot say I find the whole Grawp plotline very appealing.
I agree. It seems a bit too contrived. And I don't really see the point of him (aside from your lovely reverse-bigotry themes, of course).
The description of the insanity created by Fred and George is lovely. I especially liked the passage about the Catherine wheel that ``seemed to decide that what it needed was room to manoeuvre; it whirled towards Umbridge and Filch with a sinister `wheeeeeeeee'''. A sinister wheeeeeeeee. I am in awe.
How did I miss the sinister wheeeeeeeee? I must have been distracted by all the pretty colors.
The only thing that disappointed me about the twins' scenes here was that I remembered there being more than two scenes of diversions before they took off. And I kind of wanted more.
Theme-wise: the family theme which I noted in the Christmas chapters continues with Hagrid's problem being revealed. I hadn't made the connection before, but it stood out at me. Perhaps "family" isn't as minor a theme as I had thought in this book.
And of course the bigotry-theme, which here is shown in a strange reversal. Or two, actually. Hagrid's insistence beyond sense that Grawp is not dangerous is interesting in that it seems to suggest a shading of the subject, and then there are the centaurs with their reverse bigotry -- they function as a sort of anti-houselves.
Where are you going with the centaur reverse bigotry? That they consider themselves superior to humans? Or that humans (notably Umbridge) consider the centaurs inferior? Or some combination of both? It's interesting how it works with both levels on them.
