A fine example of the fuzzy logic of the left random thoughts Send a noteboard - 25/08/2011 06:30:36 PM
In general I find that I want to support the left's idea that we should try and help people who are disadvantaged improve their lives but the problem is that to many of their ideas actually make things worse and to often we see things like this where they are picking winners and losers based on who the like. When you look at our countries history it makes sense to want to help a black kid get into college but if you base things on race you ignore the fact that most of the poor in this country are white and can even end up helping rich black kid over a poor white one. Here we have a university wanting to increase diversity by offering scholarships to LGBT students. Is it because there are not enough LGBT students in in liberal arts schools or because this is a group they like and they really don't care about need or diversity and they just use those ideas to sugar coat their bias? If they wanted to actually increase the diversity in their school they would encourage conservatives to go there but I would bet they would shutter at the idea of real diversity of thought being brought into their campus. With this kind of flawed logic from out university it isn't hard to see why we have a growing disregard for the intellectual class in this country. Maybe if they had more intelligence and less ideology they would be held in higher regard.

Elmhurst College put a question on its admissions application that won’t appear on any other school's application.

"Would you consider yourself to be a member of the LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgendered) community?”

That optional question makes Elmhurst the first school in the country to ask applicants about their sexual orientation or gender identity, the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Gary Rold, the dean of students at Elmhurst, stressed the question falls in line with the campus’ mission statement to increase diversity.

advertisement Prospective freshmen and transfer students applying for the 2012 fall semester will become the first group of applicants to check “yes,” “no” or “prefer not to answer.” Their answers will not play a role in the admissions process.

A “yes” answer could put students in line to qualify for a scholarship worth one-third of tuition at the private, liberal arts school affiliated with the United Church of Christ, said Rold.

The college also plans to direct students to groups or resources to help them feel more comfortable on campus.

"We try really hard to take good care of students, have them graduate and be successful citizens in the world,” he said.
