I think it's less a failing of the "left"... LadyLorraine Send a noteboard - 26/08/2011 03:25:42 AM
And a failing of human thought and bias. Not that it's excusable. If you're out to promote diversity, you need to consciously think about what that means and adhere to it. But it's all too human to develop blind spots, be biased, etc...etc...

I suppose it makes certain members of the left hypocrites, but only in the way that everyone's a hypocrite. I think I'd prefer someone who is trying, failing, and coming out the hypocrite than someone who just doesn't try at all. The phrase "Well at least I'm honest about it!" just means we know your flaws up front. Which I guess is fair enough, but if you're not working to change that, it doesn't excuse your behavior.

Obviously, one should KNOW one's human tendencies and fight against them. But sometimes that's just going to fail. We are only human. This certainly isn't everyone and I am not saying that there aren't people who are outright hypocritical. There certainly are!!! I'm just saying that your "fuzzy logic of the left" is more like "fuzzy logic of humanity". I'm sure you could find similar instances within your own ideology if you considered it.

I am speaking in general, btw. not in this scenario. I'm sorry if you therefore find this post irrelevant. I just hate this "left vs. right" nonsense. Have your ideology, to be sure! But animosity doesn't really achieve anything for us.
