Could be; depends on a lot of factors. Joel Send a noteboard - 17/01/2012 07:38:55 PM
It will without a doubt bring the issue some attention. I really doubt it will backfire on them since they are affected by the law. If they were to black out to support the freedom movement of South Ubeki-beki-beki-beki-stan-stan then people might start to worry but not something like this.

Might even be effective since 95% of the country has no idea what SOPA is but they will notice they can't settle their argument about what year Nazareth's Love Hurts came out.

I think the combined impetus of commercial and strategic considerations will ultimately carry more weight than the WoW crowd. About the only thing the latter is likely to do in retaliation is hack the Pentagon--which they have already done anyway; that is kind of the problem. So I expect the bills to be merged into a single form and ultimately passed one way or the other; there will be a lot more Hell raising from the hard core internet community but not much they can really do about it and, again, much of the purpose of the legislation is to limit even that.

Right, because the argument is not just over THIS bill but, apparently, over ANY bill. - 18/01/2012 11:09:13 AM 939 Views
