Which is fine, until some criminal breaks into your house and steals all your guns. Now what? Your trained, licensed, tracked, and limited purchases are now in the hands of someone who not only meets none of these specifications, but is actually likely to do something with them! (and yes, my dad had this happen - so it's not a hypothetical argument for me)
sorry to sound rude, but do they not have a police force where your dad lives? i have a hard time believing that a robbery can be committed involving guns and the police would just sit around and wait for one of those guns to turn up instead of investigating, taking fingerprints, etc. i realize there is a lot of waiting around for something like that, but from some of the cops i've debated this very issue with, they have an idea of who to go to to buy a stolen weapon.
I don't do the "guns are evil" thing, but I do know they can kill a heck of a lot better than knives or sticks.
Pipe bombs are even easier to make than guns, and in a crowded theater or bus would probably kill even more than a single person armed with guns... which is exactly what was happening in Israel/Palestine what, 15 years ago?
yeah a bomb could have *potentially* done more damage as far as number of dead/injured, but the people who set bombs like that don't usually do so without a clear agenda for setting it off. even though james holmes clearly had the means and knowledge to create a set of bombs, he chose instead to go with guns to do the actual killing. there is a reason for that, and i'm sure it doesn't have anything to do with how relatively easy it is to get a gun in the US
