I have a friend, she is an older lady, very southern evangelical Christian. She has very firm beliefs that she is not afraid to proclaim out loud. She once told me that she believes I should turn to Christ if I want to save my soul, and that I wont go to heaven in her eyes even if I am a nice person because I dont except Jesus as my savior and what not. Thats fine. Every religion pretty much believes everyone else is going to hell so its all good.
About 2 years ago I moved from TX to the East coast and I have come across more gay people and more "liberal minded" folks and i have come to want gay marriage to be as legal as straight marriage. I am a Muslim and my religion just like Christianity and Judaism says that homosexuality is an abomination and a sin...
I really dont care if people are gay, this is America. I cant force my religious views on the 300 million people in this country and I dont except them to force their views on me.
If a church says they will never allow gay marriages to be officiated by their clergy, more power to them, If another Church says they will perform gay marriages, then good for them, I could care less.
But If i go to city hall and get a marriage license to marry a man and then divorce him and marry 50 more men one at a time after divorcing the previous husband, why cant a gay man go to city hall anywhere in America and just marry another guy. It is a piece of paper. A marriage license/contract is a piece of paper that has power behind it only because the government in the past has decided this piece of paper means such and such.
Not allowing gay marriage is basically shoving a certain religion or ideology down our throats. If being a himosexual and having homosexual sex, and living in the same house with your homosexual partner like any other married couple is not ILLEGAL then why cant we legalize gay marriage. Its a piece of fu@king paper.
My friend was arguing that if she supports gay marriage and if the government passes a federal law for gay marriage, then the govt is condoning and spreading homosexuality and saying it is ok to be gay. I pointed out that not allowing gay marriage will not stop people from being gay! And once again, the govt never said its not ok to be gay, because homosexuality is not illegal! When you say you are against gay marriege you are against a piece of paper that is filed away in city hall that says you are married. I had a court marriage and I had a religious marriage in a mosque. I didnt consider myself married till I had the religious ceremony, the city hall marriage to me is just another piece of paper. Ihave a gay friend who is a very devout Christian, this guy doesnt miss a sunday service, he goes to a church that accepts gays, so If california would legalize gay marriage he could go get his little court room marriage and then have a wedding at his church if eh wanted and that is his business, not mine or anyone elses.
So why cant 2 men go to city hall and get married? I dont know, and I dont think I will even understand why people are sooo goddamn against it.
So yeah my friend walked away from our conversation when she couldnt get me to renounce what I said and she thinks I have been brainwashes by democrats and liberals in CT.
