Granted, I'm considered rather left-wing by Norwegian standards, which probably makes me a communist by American standards, but I would still like to understand what people see as the problem with ObamaCare.

As I see it, the money to pay for hospitals etc. must come from the people. In Norway, that happens through taxes. People pay taxes to the government, the government gives the money to the hospitals (which are owned by the government). The way I understand it, in America those who can afford it give money to an insurance company, which then probably keeps some fraction of it for themselves, and hand the rest on to hospitals as their clients receive treatment.

I am simply unable to understand why it is seen as a good idea to involve private insurance companies, who are presumably looking to make a profit, into one of the most essential functions in a country.

I'm not deliberately trying to be difficult here, I just don't understand it, and I'd be happy if anyone could explain.

See, here is the problem. People don't want to pay taxes. They want cake but don't want to pay for the god damn ingredients. They're greedy, fucking bastards. And it doesn't matter that the way things have been done here have led us to our lowest point perhaps ever. We've still been doing things right over here. This is just a fluke.

Thats our problem here in America. We're greedy as all hell. BTW, not involving greedy private insurance companies is barbaric.

A third reason is any type of universal care here that is funded by taxes is looked upon as "forced charity". Now, charity in this country is a status thing. It is not about helping others. It's about making ourselves look better. If we're forced to do it by paying taxes that help others receive the same or similar health coverage as ourselves, then we've been tricked, gosh darn it. We're being taken advantage of! It simply can't be allowed.

Your mom. That's right. The cat is out of the bag. Your mom.
