Probably just never noticed them, not really in the market Isaac Send a noteboard - 09/03/2010 06:28:23 PM

Honestly, I don't think I've ever in my life seen a bag of pre-chopped onions.

I see them all the time, usually at the fancier grocery stores (I'm at Heinen's once a week) but sometimes at Wal Mart as well. They're usually not bagged; they're in plastic tubs. You can get frozen chopped onion just about everywhere too.

I don't actually buy pre-chopped onion though ;) Chopping onions is one of my absolute least favorite cooking jobs, but nothing beats the taste of a fresh-cut onion.

I'll have to keep an eye out next time I'm at the store, but I suppose I could see the market for it, I like fresh onion and my eyes don't water much when chopping them, but I could see how pre-chopped onion might have a nice little niche in the market for those who react badly to alliums, but I've never had much reaction to them so it has never been an issue worth sacrificing freshness, not that fresh makes much difference in soup most times.
