Why the adult qualifier? Is the age of the individual a factor in whether one is "humanized" or not?

Because it is just contempt, and contempt being expressed to another human being has so little benefits in human conversation.

Here, let the AEI president Arthur C. Brooks describe this point. (Well former president now for he retired this year in 2018 after a 10 year stint at running AEI, AEI is usually considered one of the two most important conservative think tanks in the US)

EKS, it starts with "Contempt conviction of the utter worthlessness of another human being"
