They're more hostile about the books than the TV series, though indeed not wildly enthusiastic about the latter, either. But then neither are we.

I'm pretty sure they'll make her more sympathetic on the show - already have, to some extent, even in the three episodes we saw. Whether or not they cut the Seanchan storyline will obviously have a big impact on how Egwene evolves as well. I'd imagine it will be a lot like how GoT translated Cersei's character to the screen - in broad strokes her personality is the same and she does the same or similar things, but thanks to some combination of the writing and Lena Headey's acting skills, the TV character is still a good bit more sympathetic (at least, in the four or so seasons that I've seen, before they jumped the shark and all).
