I tried something a little similar with the 'sheriff' role in game 8, it was an add-on, people voted to see who would be sheriff and that person had an extra-vote, it was designed to let the double-voter role get some air since we'd kept accidentally killing our double-voters. But it added - IMO, the players might not agree - an interesting layer to the game, since they might accidentally hand it off to a DF.

I sort of like the idea of shifting roles like cop around. I'd have to think of how to stick that into the a game, sometimes these things don't really game well, I've been trying to think of ways to have deathless games too, since I dislike killing people off, like just striking them from the vote count.

In this sort of case, you could probably rotate the cop, but the DFs would likely roleblock if they knew in advance and otherwise the cop just claims afterwards. 'Omnirole' is something I've kicked around, where people have a certain amount of 'points', which they can spend for certain actions, like you've got 50 points a night, a one-night vest cost 60, an investigation 50, a doccing 30, etc. You could really play around with that I tihnk, by randomly distributing what things each player can buy and for how much, say Player X and Y both have the option to cop, doc, and vig, but X pays 100 for a cop and Y pays 80, while Y pays 50 to doc and X pays 75, etc. Then Z might be able to track or watch only, but maybe pays less for it. You could give people an initial cache, with points accumulating each day, or no cache and lower you early death by NKs, or even set specific criteria that might give points, like 'X, every time a DF dies you get 50 points' and 'Y, you get 100 points a day, but lose 25 every time a townie dies, if you reach zero you die' which I think has the potential to really add a whole new level to the game, if it can be made simplified enough that newer players can absorb it and the normal rules fairly quickly. I could see someone gambling with their last points to NK someone, then falling over dead because they hit the wrong target.

I sort of like having everybody in a game have something more than vanilla, but you can choke a game if everyone has a role, so I sort of like the idea of a point-buy night action, because then you can distribute it around. You could really get some flavor if say, the standard DF template was NK and roleblock, and if DFs or masonic pairs could share points.
