This discussion made me think of a possibility. I am embarrassed to even say it b/c it is just a fleeting thing thrown out there and pales in comparison to what you've thought up, but i like to share--even if it's silly, so here it goes---

Thinking about Egwene dying if she doesnt bond Gawyn--what if this is because she is going to suffer an injury that would otherwise be fatal, but if bonded, she can survive by virtue of the benefits of the bond.

i'm thinking on my feet so it's not fleshed out, but this could be a trigger for Gawyn to attack Rand in a rage if he sees it as Rand's fault. But to get that "warder rage" i think his AS would have to actually die, so this is probably nonsense, especially since it isnt well thought out otherwise.
