I actually don't read much fiction at all to be honest darius_sedai Send a noteboard - 04/06/2010 04:00:03 PM
You have to understand that whenever you (or anyone else) argues that the characters are rounded characters with depth, there are a significant number of people who just don't see that. You can't "logically" convince people (myself included) that the characters are deep.

To a large degree, it's a matter of perception. I'm sure that a lot of it also has to do with points of reference. I suggested that maybe you don't read a lot of serious literature because that would affect the level of depth you hope to see in major characters in any book.

However, even if you do, it's an argument that you can't really make. People agree or they don't. It's like trying to argue with someone who says that Faile is their favorite character. You know they're wrong (and, in that particular case, probably not mentally well), but you'll never convince them.

Of course defining "serious" literature is in and of itself amusing.

I'm not sure why you would even bring up the subject if you don't see the point of discussing it. I read WOT for fun, there is enough growth/depth etc for my reasons for reading. If all you want to do is complain about what you dislike about the characters why come to the board? I will never understand why people who seem to actually hate WOT or RJs writing spend time on a fan site... obviously something attracts you to the books.
