In my books, if you can't shield someone (because the other one is so strong, or because your weave is so weak it can be cut, or anything else) it means you can't shield someone. Period.


When Verin tried to shield Graendal in WH, her shield simply bounces off. Graendal had to do nothing to counter it, her strength was enough.

With Rand and Lanfear, Lanfear's shield was strong enough to cut him off, but he cut her shield. Had he failed to do so, she would have shielded him.
