From the last Pov we glean that the Shadow's assault has begun. The POV is set in Kandor. We also know that Lan is trying to go unnoticed by going close to the blight, and is in Kandor.
Might this invasion stop, and force him to confront the Shadow invasion in Kandor, thus forcing him to go out of hiding. And there is that convenient group that is gathering in Kandorian capital.
