Are done in secrecy or around other DFs only. Bornhald is disgusted by Carridin's actions, but he doesn't consider the man might be a DF. There were thousands of men involved and yet none of them is shown to do more than shrug it off.

Conversely, an AS caught killing a Novice would be Stilled an executed as a DF. Even Therava's casual cruelty would be enough for an AS to be censured on some level... Vandene and Adeleas allude to it when they go to question Ispan... Clearly it's not unheard of in AS, but just as clearly it's looked at with more than contempt and possibly could have repercussions much like what we saw with Semirhage.
