Atop Dragonmount, for one... fionwe1987 Send a noteboard - 09/02/2011 07:36:56 AM

When is this shown to be the case?

Rand has the option of destroying the world, and there was no one else to influence him in any way.

Certainly, the Pattern played a role in his choice. As he himself said, he wouldn't have won through but for the people he knew and who loved him. But that doesn't mean he didn't have a choice.

Same with everyone else. Isn't the voice telling Rand in EotW that the choice to fight Ishy is his ample proof that choice does exist?

I want to reply and say that's not exactly how I picture it, but I don't want to be dirty. *NM* - 08/02/2011 06:50:17 AM 633 Views

But that has always been the case. I am astounded that it isn't recognized more often... - 08/02/2011 03:58:24 PM 1177 Views
This. There's a reason one of his archetypes is the Fisher King. *NM* - 08/02/2011 07:00:05 PM 606 Views
The issue is that the Fisher King story is about the Land, not the People - 08/02/2011 08:02:24 PM 1102 Views

But the chess analogy is what I'm seeing - the Dragon is necessary in degree not in total. - 09/02/2011 02:42:15 PM 1169 Views
