That we might really find out in ToM or AMoL that Graendal sneaked away before Rand balefired the palace. On a re-read of this scene TGS we would then laugh about Rand's pretentious & ridiculous explanation how to outsmart someone like Graendal, because - as we know now - it isn't possible at all and Rand is just an idiot to try it.


I think Rand's little speech deserves to be laughed at. It is so at odds with many of the concepts of the series that I think it was meant to show how unbalance Rand was, not to illustrate a successful strategy.

I mean, how many times has Rand "reached across a table and punched" a Forsaken before "playing their game" now? Basically, this was his mentality earlier in the series, and in many ways it illustrates his regression to insanity IMHO.

He's *never* beaten a Forsaken at their own game - his M.O. is pretty consistent; he shows up, mostly as a shock assault, a reaction to their own offensive or in a surprise attack, and proceeds to chase the Forsaken once he figures out where they are.
