All the Forsaken have outsmarted Rand - he's never penetrated any of their plots or neutralized their intrigues. By the time Rand came to get them, it came down to him beating them with brute strength in the Power and his t'a'veren luck.

He's still blaming the Aes Sedai for putting him in a box, when it was obvious that it was one of the Forsaken who ordered this and manipulate the White Tower, for example.

He even assumes that Asmodean escaped rather than any alternative because he considers the Forsaken much stronger, smarter and more capable than he is. That was the whole point of his going off the radar - they were so smart that he feared getting caught if he stayed in one place for too long.
