...between the colorful, prideful world that many of the characters think they inhabit, and the brutal reality that Martin frequently reminds us of.
It's an interesting reminder of how unhealthy this universe's societies really are, and the things they do to try to hide from that fact.
Or maybe I'm reading to much into it.
Oh, I like the contrast he sets up. I am just not sure that the catalogues of banners are the best device for that.
