But I don't agree with you, needless to say. I've found science fiction and fantasy offer the deepest and most thoughtful notes on the human condition than anything else.
That's not to say I don't ever read it for a "diversion," so to speak- Robert Jordan is indeed a good example of this kind of fantasy author. But a lot of other speculative fiction authors I read- for the opposite.
That's also not to say I don't like some other fiction, but go back to that thread I posted about the snobbery. I don't want to read classics. I want to read new, fresh stuff. I like to stay away from the "big literature" and discover the more underappreciated stuff, as far as fiction goes. And speculative fiction as well, in some cases.
Anyway, kind of my thoughts on the matter.
