but it was well worded and supported bullshit
It was mostly tied into Nemo and his character. I don't remember exactly what my thesis even was anymore, but I did manage to pull out legitimate deeper meaning. But then, I can fish out deeper meaning from most things. Part if it comes from living with rather vivid dreams, so I've always enjoyed picking those apart and theorizing on the symbolism of weird events, why people play certain character in my dreams, and stuff like that. You could probably put a plate of mashed potatos in front of me and I'd eek out some sort of ridiculous meaning or symbolism. Probably something like "the form of these mashed potatoes is mountinous, suggesting a challenged and struggling mind. Given that the media is mashed potato, one might infer that it represents the struggle of the Irish immigrants and how the existing citizens of America mashed them under their boots when they first arrived" or some other such bullarky.
But in anycase, I did manage to make a legitimate thesis and paper. This teacher would not have allowed me to get away with anything else (trust me). She was a fantastic teacher, really. Pity she became a librarian.

The Count of Monte Cristo was a terrible choice for a book discussion.

People should think about these things before recommending books.

Which is why I voted for Bulgakov's M & M.

I disagree slightly

Well, by that standard a Jackie Collins novel is worthy of debate.

Ooh...I'd love to hear them!!! What did Eco say to trash Dumas? *NM*

Here's the French translation from Eco's work on supermen

I love it. Strangely enough, though, he wrote an introduction to the book.

Not really strange as Eco has long been fascinated by this book

Did he mention it in his book on ugliness?

That's fascinating. Of course, I disagree with Eco's praise.

I think there are plenty of things that can be discussed.

Depends on who you are, one would imagine.

I don't get that. Well, of course I do from Tom, but let's put him aside for this discussion.
