Well, they are right.

Not so much. Sex encompasses both the bits and chromosomes you have and the psychological differences. (Speaking in generalities, of course.)

Gender might cover the supposed roles society gives men and women in the modern parlance, but the fact that women are (in general) more nurturing than men is about sex not gender. And I believe that was the kind of use above.
