When I say "I'll think about it", I really mean "I don't want to, and am wuss-ing out by not providing a definitive answer so I can avoid having a discussion about it in the first place". If I was genuinely unsure, I would discuss it with my wife.

Sharing in what's important with one another is a significant part of a successful relationship in my mind - it certainly is so with my wife and I. His wife made an effort to include him in a family event: her reply that she'd go alone is indicative to me that she's no longer willing to make the effort to include him with what's important to her.
