Like several people pointed out, by itself it could be taken either way or maybe she is in the transistion phase of accepting that she doesn't have to have him with her in everything she does.

However. What you said about him speaking of her condescedingly? Whole different ball game. If my husband spoke of me in a condescending manner it would be over. Poof! Finished. That is intolerable.
