I don't feel bad about asking that there be mandatory training, licensing, tracking, limits on who can buy, etc.
Which is fine, until some criminal breaks into your house and steals all your guns. Now what? Your trained, licensed, tracked, and limited purchases are now in the hands of someone who not only meets none of these specifications, but is actually likely to do something with them! (and yes, my dad had this happen - so it's not a hypothetical argument for me)
I'm really not sure what you want me to say - I am not for making no rules just because people will break them. I would expect your father to have reported this, and then if the guns surfaced in a crime there would be trackable knowledge of how, when, etc they got out on the scene. It might not be completely helpful, but that still doesn't mean I don't want normal citizens to have to have had some gun education and a license. It feels a little like birth control - well, she doesn't it use it, why should I? (answer seems a little obvious to me)
I don't do the "guns are evil" thing, but I do know they can kill a heck of a lot better than knives or sticks.
Pipe bombs are even easier to make than guns, and in a crowded theater or bus would probably kill even more than a single person armed with guns... which is exactly what was happening in Israel/Palestine what, 15 years ago?
Yess.... ? I still am not sure how to answer. I realize that if someone wants to kill, that will happen somehow. I'm not making any arguments about that. As I admitted to wooly when this all started, it certainly isn't possible to make the system work perfectly. Doesn't mean we shouldn't educate and protect where we can. *shrugs*
Do you have strong feelings/opinions about gun control?
