I'm pretty sure most everyone agrees assault rifles ought to be banned.
There are firearms that it makes sense to have semi automatic settings for, and there are firearms that it doesn't. There should be a distinction between the two, instead of the hazy "assault weapons" definition that I've seen extended to pistols.
