A two person household is inefficient. Now if you take 5 people, you have a much better efficiency curve for raising children.

I also assume that by polygamy you mean multiple people, not just multiple wives. The problem with polygamy is it comes from a place of deeply unequal social positions for men and women, and is harmful to society.
