and how labor-intensive/"do it yourself" you make that definition. Particularly since such a definition tends to change between the foodstuff.

For example, I made soup without making my own "broth"...but it was a vegetable/bean soup and I didn't use any broth/boullion at all . But then again, all I did was dump a bunch of beans and veggies into water and let it cook with some spices and herbs. So was my soup homemade, or not?
The veggies cooking in their own juices IS a broth. :D

After this discussion, I have concluded that bouillon is cheating. But if done right can be an acceptable cheat. The alternative is having my stove full of stock pots for most of the weekend, in addition to baking my own bread once a month. Ugh. It's too time-consuming. working 30 hours a week is too much for trying to have "pure" food.

I just hate to have to sacrifice so much to convenience. (Now there's irony for you.)
