who leaves their marriage certificate just out lying on the table? I find myself doubting the police truly just "stumbled" onto it.

Yes, people keep bringing that up, but nothing in the lawsuit or from her contradicts this, I'm reasonably sure she'd have mentioned the whole 'it wasn't on my table' thing if that was the case, so everyone saying this over and over is not really fair to the police, you're basically accusing them without evidence and with contradictory circumstances of a major, major violation of rights that to the best of my knowledge the apparent victim has not claimed herself.

People do act stupidly, I have to say getting married in her case, while possibly being viewed as a principled action, wasn't exactly clever, nor is marrying a criminal. Also, I regularly leave personal documents lying around my table or desk, since this is where I tend to read them. I used to grade papers at the table in my kitchen next to a glass door because I liked the daylight better to read by. All the back and forth here and on other sites about how the cops might have invaded her house or she might have left it out on purpose hoping to get caught all bypass the obvious. It's her home, most of us don't hide stuff in our houses nor should we have to, but the police tend to routinely jot down everything they see they think might be important to a case, and obviously finding out your suspect's married and to who is fairly germane. One might assume though that like most service-members she's not in the habit of expecting police to show up at her door and since she presumably lived with her spouse, she probably doesn't invite over people who would see a marriage license as a massive shocker.
