I mean, you're right that to refer to a person as 'it' when 'he' or 'she' or singular 'they' would do is insulting, but not correct that it is always wrong to refer to an adult as 'it', even when the person's gender is not in question. Because 'he', 'she' or 'they' will not always do.

Hollywood has the best moral compass, because it has compassion.
