Really? Who would say "female human?" I'm just surprised, since I didn't realize this was a thing. I mean, I am female, and it wouldn't occur to me to be upset, unless someone said "typical female," or something of that nature. And then, I'd be angry at the stereotype, not the term.
Right there- you're using female correctly. When you say "I am female" you're using female as an adjective. To use it as a noun, it would have to be "I am a female". Doesn't that sound odd? The implied word in that sentence is "human", as in "I am a female human".
Not particularly? I almost wrote "I am a female," so I think of it interchangeably. Either way, you know the human is implied, but that I also happen to self-identify as female.
The Hunger Games gets a ... different kind of review.
