LOL u so mad Dan Send a noteboard - 06/04/2012 06:19:28 PM
I do say! :)

I merely explained the connotations in French and why the use of female in English don't feel natural to French speakers even when rationally we're aware of the different/absent connotations.

How you read "disrespect" for English into that or why this sparked this little lecture with platitudes I'm all too aware of being Canadian, Québécois and having lived in a French/English bilingual environment all my life baffles me.

Maybe because the first line of the post was explicit agreement with Vivien?

"It's fairly derogatory as a noun, though, have to agree with Vivien on that one."

So you weren't "merely explaining" the connotations in French and your feelings about it, you were also agreeing with Viven's assessment of "female" as derogatory and her normative claims about its use. Just because you used "femmelle" and its connotations in French as a springboard to agree with Viven's claims about "female" doesn't obviate it, and this in turn prompted me to just give a gentle, platitudinous reminder for people who like to overreach. So, maybe you need to go back and read what you said?

As far as platitudes go, only the second half could be said to filled with them, and that was just to prevent internet tears. And as far as being bilingual goes, well, getting your verbs to agree with the subjects of your sentence will go a long way to getting me to believe you, bro.
