Graendal and Aran'gar were in the same room, and Aran'gar knew that Rand was outside on the hill. Graendal was using a dove to evesdrop on Rand but Aran'gar couldn't see what she saw or hear what she heard. When Graendal saw him turn on the access key she opened a gateway, put shields on them, leapt through it, and saw the white light of balefire before closing it. Aran'gar had enough time to say "Graendal? What are you --"
