I've been told a few times it was a stupid notion that Lanfear might have been killed on purpose for punishment.

It turned out it wasn't exactly what happened, but Moghedien clearly includes a notion of punishment in Moridin's choice of mean to rescue Lanfear from Sindhol (as in: he could have chosen to make a bargain to get her back, instead he chose to kill her there so she'd suffer through death as she caused to happen to him, and so she'd lose her Lanfear persona and body.).

It's fairly clear at this point how much Cyndane and Moridin hate each other.


At least once we got the basics from Moiraine. I had the impression that the prevailing mentality on the board was that Lanfear had been killed as a punishment. The idea that the 'Finns killed her was a possibility until Moiraine told us someone came to 'Finnland to take Lanfear. After that I thought it was obvious that her death and new body were part of her punishment. Certainly what Moghedien tells us makes it irrefutable now.
