The Portal Stone trip taken by Rand, Mat, Verin and co. gave the impression that if you entered a Mirror World where you exist, you see it through the eyes of the life you have there. So.. there wouldn't be two of you simultaneously, and perhaps you can't physically enter a world if you exist there, only mentally. Rand and co. saw flashes of their alternate lives there.

But the Mirror Worlds are rather esoterical stuff, so who knows...

I believe Demandred's means of recruiting were more mundane, and his powerbase is well hidden, perhaps on another continent or an Island, or it's beyond the Blight. Somewhere where the other Forsaken would not have tought to look.
