Rand's going to look really stupid if his whole 'punch her in the face' revelation didn't work. As someone else said, he used brute force to smash down one of the cleverest of the Forsaken.
I think Graendal's one of the best of the villains, but she's not infallible. Sammael got the better of her, and that means Rand could too. She was balefired. We'll probably get her PoV in the next book as she dies.
