Actually that's one of my hang-ups about Slayer too

someone would have had to send him ... which we cannot know prior to the events of LOC is part of how things work with Slayer. His involvement adds another layer to the mystery
such as:
1. how would anyone know where to find Asmo in the first place? The crime is way too opportunistic for to have been planned out.
2. why would any of the FS bother to send Slayer after Asmo? There is no gain in it for them to kill him off via the use of Slayer. Sure seeing him dead would be good for them, but ultimately it seems like a lot of work just to kill him off.
3. RJ foreshadowed it being one of the FS earlier in the book when Asmo tells Rand that any of the FS "would kill him on sight"
Slayer as the killer feels like a red herring to me ... seems obvious at first, but once you do even the smallest digging the whole house of cards collapses.
