If most Aes Sedai seem happy to live in their little bubble of superiority and inter-Ajah politics, why would a full third of them Rebel against Elaida? You do realize that those crazy actions of hers are exactly why these women are Rebelling? By trying to excise a leader who does so much harm, these women are doing good, and hence, are not superfluous.
Most of Elaida's policies have been against other Aes Sedai. Disbanding the Blue, ordering sisters strapped/demoted, seizing power in the way she did...
If Elaida had only made bad decisions in regards to the outside world, and had kept the Ajahs happy, I highly, HIGHLY doubt there would be a rebellion.
(Not that I think the Salidar AS are out of line- I'm just saying that they didn't rebel out of outrage that Elaida bungled the Rand situation.)
What you're forgetting is that Elaida deposed Siuan over the Rand business and its Siuan's worry over what Elaida would do to Rand that made her strengthen and entrench the rebellion. Same with Egwene.
And many Sitters in the Rebellion at least do worry that Elaida as a Red would totally mishandle Rand. The argument is simple. How can they trust a woman so into her own power to leads the Tower well during Tarmon Gaidon?
You know... it feels like the Aes Sedai are pretty superflouous
