Lupin: I take it he is unhappy because Tonks is pregnant. It is understandable. The Ministry's position on werewolves cannot help matters.
That and he's eaten up with worry that his kid will be "sick" because of him. That would be something that put my stomach into knots while my wife was pregnant.
Mr Lovegood: Well, we know where Luna gets the crazy from.
Yes, this was something good to see though, in terms of insight into Luna. Xenophilius is 100% nutbag though.
I love his commentary on Krum and vice versa.
Luna: Her ability to see through to the truth of things is evident again, as she recognises Harry by his expression despite the polyjuice potion disguise.
Loved this. Luna reminds me of Trelwaney at times, though less annoying. For all her crazy, she's very good at seeing through things to the truth.
Hermione: Her moment of panic is a side to her character which they never embraced in the films. It fits her reaction in the first book when faced with the devil's snare. She is great as long as she can plan, but when there is something she has not prepared for, she falls apart a little. I like this. Without it she is too perfect. Interestingly, the moments when Hermione falls apart are precisely the moments when Harry shines. Every time.
I think that this counterbalance between Hermoine and Harry goes a long way in the later chapters with Ron's jealousy. It's been this way through the entire series, with Ron occasionally coming up with something for the good of the team (outside of comic relief). The extended camping trip stresses that relationship further, because they're almost always together.
