Re: Snape, Harry, Ron, Hermione, Xenophilius, Luna and Dumbledore.

Snape: Is there a remnant of semi-sadistic attitude to Harry in making him get the sword by diving into a frozen lake? I can imagine him smiling at the thought, in a "oh, my, god save me from Gryffindors and their heroics" kind of way. Not in an evil way. More in an "I'll be damned if I make this too easy" way. Perhaps not. More likely, I suppose, it is in order to make it make sense to Harry, as it does.
I like this moment for Snape. While he is never visible, it appeals to me. We get to see it again in his memories, I think?
We do find out that this was him in the pensieve memories he leaves for Harry. His memory was primarily around conjuring his patronus, IIRC. I love that it's him and love that he does it unseen. His revelations chapter at the end is the best in the series for me. It uncovers all sorts of things he's gone through, thanklessly, to help everyone.
Ron: Is saving Harry his first real act of bravery? I mean, he has followed Harry into scary places before, but this seems like the first time he has done something brave impulsively and by himself. Or is there something I have forgotten?
This goes a long way to redeeming him as a character and fixing his relationship with Harry / Hermoine. He's finally done something, on his own, not just as a bi-product of following Harry around. I never really understood that about his character. We talked earlier about the Harry / Hermoine combo and how effective they are as a pair. This finally gives Ron something to stand on as his own, as a contributing member of the trio, as does destroying the horcrux. Seems kind of like a turning point for him because he starts coming up with things throughout the rest of the book, i.e. planning for Gringots, the basalisk fangs, etc.
Hermione: I really liked her reaction to the reappearance of Ron. The whole scene is well played. Both the anger and the sarcasm at his hardships.
This was a fantastic way for her to react. Love that she makes him earn his way back in, despite that he's already done something more impactful and brave than he has for the entire beginning of the series.
I cannot quite blame him for turning them in. He is desperate and has no way of coping with it.
Luna: Her hearbreakingness continues with the painting on the ceiling.
Can definitely understand Xeno giving them up. They promised him his daughter back afterall and she's all he has left. The painting was very touching. Luna is awesome.
