I think that lying is a yes/no proposition. Issues over what constitutes a lie remain - is not telling the entire truth a lie?, for example. However, a lie is a yes/no "bright line". All fiction is on the "we admit we are lying" line, hence nothing additional is to be gained by going farther from that bright line.

At least, that's my story and I'm sticking to it.
