their stated motive was to increase diversity

That was sort of the point I was making not that they shouldn't be allowed to do it. If they were taking actions to make LGBT feel safer on the campus or to make sure there was no discrimination taking place in the class room I wouldn't have mentioned. If they had just flat out said it was a scholarship for LGBT students I would never have mentioned it, it was the diversity label I object to. It is like saying "it is for the kids" and you can't be against it unless you hate kids. As I said I think is an example of the fuzzy logic often used by the left. Is this honestly an unrepresented group? I can't prove it but I find it highly doubtful. Assuming that I am right, and I typically do, then what they are doing is picking a group to offer aid to not based on actual need but biased on warm fuzzy. I wasn't implying that their motives were nefarious but either they really don't understand what the word diversity means or they were simply trying to help a group they liked regardless of actual need and slapping and big smiley face diversity sticker on it.
A fine example of the fuzzy logic of the left

Personally I still favor demographic blind subsidies as the best route to meritocracy.

There are colleges that don't allow homosexuals - or men, or women for that matter.

I would have no problem with a LGBT only school as long as it didn't take state money

The United Church of Christ is a rather liberal denomination - celebrating gay marriages, notably.

My guess is because you referenced "the lefts" fuzzy logic in a thread about a LGBT scholarship.
