We get an idea that we like then we find evidence to support that idea and we ignore the stuff that doesn't fit. I agree that we need to teach people better critical thinking skills but I think we need to start at the top and work our way down, few of our so called intellectuals show much aptitude for critical thinking.
We really need to have Logic as a course in high schools.
