I also think it's fair for opponents of the photo ID requirement to point out how it might disproportionately affect certain segments who can less easily absorb/overcome the additional complication for lack of a better word.
I don't understand how you can go about everyday life without having an ID. Its not needed only for voting. We're not asking for a special ID for voting. We're asking for an ID that allows you to do things from buy cigarettes/alcohol and apply for a job to use your bank/credit card and hell, sometimes even EBT card. There are many instances where it is needed in everyday life. To be so irresponsible as to not have one for any extended period of time is outright inexcusable and shameful.
I can understand arguments about having trouble getting replacements, or renewing them exactly on time. But to go an extended period of time without them I can't understand. Its called responsibility. I was raised (quite recently, being 24) that you take responsibility for yourself and act as an adult when you become one. Was I raised incorrectly?
You see it as irresponsible because you can't imagine not needing one to live your life, so you see it as something that should be prioritized. But it's all too possible to live without one (or at least without a photo ID specifically). Plenty of people don't buy alcohol or tobacco
and plenty of people are able to buy them without an ID. There's a whole separate financial culture that doesn't use banks at all but survives on money orders, payday lenders, and other shady sorts of ripoffs. Of course it's better for people to have a valid photo ID at all times, and it just makes sense to do so. I also have no problem with there being consequences for choosing not to have one for whatever reason. I'm just not convinced that taking away their ability to vote should be one of them (although I'm also not convinced requiring a photo ID would do that, to be honest).
If you are from Betelgeuse, please have one of your Earth friends read what I've written before you respond. Or try concentrating harder.
