If Hitler could let Jesse Owens run... Cannoli Send a noteboard - 25/07/2012 11:07:19 PM
And all this once again reminds me that if we only protected the rights of the people who agreed with us, we wouldn't have free speech. People are welcome to boycott Chick-Fil-A (I don't think I would have gone to one even before the controversy), sponsors can pull sponsorship. People are welcome to hate Voula Papachristou, too. However, I think the "official" actions taken against both are disgusting, too.

Indeed. Invariably, this comes down to whose ox is being gored, and if it degenerates to that level, then politics gets a lot nastier - when government usurps too much authority, it becomes a matter of life or death to win the elections or whatever means are used to take control of the government, if only to prevent your side from being the ones who are censored and banned, and to turn it against the other side as a matter of survival. Eventually, with being in power becoming a matter of survival, any means necessary to get power is going to be seen as legitimate. That's the end result of political power being used to enforce morals or group privileges.

Am I the only one who thinks Voula Papachristou should not have been kicked out of the Olympics? - 25/07/2012 10:55:19 PM 1409 Views
Being on a country's Olympic team is a privilege, not a right - 25/07/2012 11:00:24 PM 879 Views
So banning blacks would be cool if it was legal in that country? - 25/07/2012 11:08:52 PM 1029 Views
If that's how the country wants to run itself - 25/07/2012 11:13:04 PM 898 Views
The IOC can ban nations from participating for that sort of stunt. - 25/07/2012 11:33:23 PM 1053 Views
So that excuses thought control? - 25/07/2012 11:49:58 PM 956 Views
