I mean if we didn't have this weird unknown force that drives the Universe apart then there's literally no Universe, be it small steady state with finite stars to infinite steady state that does either flash fry us or smash us together while flash frying us. It's disturbing because it literally requires a constant shoving force which we don't even vaguely understand the motive power for to allow a Universe which is even feasible. Olber's Paradox BBQ or Big Crunch before you even expand are the only options.
