Aren't there significant differences between the Salafis and the Islamic State?

Not so much in overall theology where they are pretty much identical. What I mean is in acceptance of the Caliphate. While the Islamic State has declared al-Baghdadi to be the Caliph, many Salafis have not. It's the existence of and support for the Caliphate that brings into play the Quran's blessing on offensive jihad, the taking of slaves and concubines from unbelievers conquered, and behaeding those who resist. I'm not fond of the Salafis, but if there has to be one branch of Sunni Fundamentalism, I prefer the one that believes it's up to Allah to bring about a new Caliphate on earth.
