If the state chooses to regulate those rights, the states can regulate as they see fit, since it is the people that elect the legislature which regulates those rights, it is in fact the people deciding which rights, if any require regulation, and which regulations, if any, are suitable.

I'm not sure Dragonsoul was suggesting Democracy is the universal balm but that it is the recourse you have, unfortunately Democracy itself leads to lots of issues, but still seems best form of government around.
It isn't your fault the power system is unresponsive, but if the state leaders have managed to allow it to get to this stage over time, and they are the leaders the state people keep voting for, I just don't see an easy way around it.
In many democratic countries, it does feel like things have improved with abortion becoming freer, gay marriage being allowed etc, but it has mainly been done via government legislation I believe, this law change (assuming it goes through) will push it back to the state / federal governments, and I guess it means it is there that such freedoms need to be restored, which feels like it may be a firmer ground going forward than relying on a court's interpretation.
Perhaps it will change. But I doubt it.
Texas can at any time do the State Medicaid expansion but it chooses not too. Only people allowed to get Medicaid in Texas are Pregnant mothers, and disabled people. This is an absurd thing for the Medicaid expansion would actually increase revenue in Texas, for it would get National funds that will pay Texas doctors and hospitals.
Furthermore Texas is the place in the Lawrence v. Texas with Sodomy laws. People arrested for merely being queer. Laws passed by the majority.
Horrible options happen all the time in Texas, the cruelty is not always but sometimes the point!

It is not just about abortion. Alito’s draft opinion goes after other things with its logics, it is an invitation for other lawsuits. The same week that the draft opinion dropped our Texas governor went on talk radio and said he would direct a lawsuit saying whether the state needs to educate all children. Aka attacking immigration and disabled children whether they, the State of Texas has a legal obligation to educate everyone.
