People thinking that it is feminist is what saddens me. Both those that think it's feminist and dislike it, and those that think it's feminist and laud it. Because finding it to be feminist just because it has a female main character is admitting defeat. It means that when a movie has a male MC it's just a normal movie, but if it has a female character then it's feminist. That isn't the way it should be, -isms should be reserved for when something is truly radical. I'd call a movie feminist if it was bringing women up while putting men down, not if it's just featuring a female character. That to me is perfectly ordinary.

The majority of people go see movies because the premise sounds good, they have a great trailer, someone popular starring etc. They don't give a rats ass if the MC is male or female, as long as it is interesting and well written. There have been huge hits with female MC for 30 years (Aliens, Resident evil franchise). And there have been flops. To even point out that something is feminist and a huge step is pointing the finger at something that is an artificial problem and therefore contributing to the problem all over again.
(and before this discussion goes on a larger scale: I am talking entertainment here, I am not saying there aren't still fronts where feminists have a good reason to fight their fights).
